Employees do not come to work to get healthy, but what if that were an inevitable side effect?

My name is Bekah Miller, I am privileged to be part of a Corporate Care team serving as Onboarding Facilitator and Wellness Coordinator for a manufacturing company called ProVia. ProVia is comprised of eight facilities across Northeast OH along with one facility in Booneville, MS. Additionally, ProVia employes offsite sales account managers, warranty service technicians, and truck drivers across the country. ProVia is a premier building products manufacturer that produces windows, siding, entry doors, metal roofing, and manufactured stone.

ProVia is a company built on faith, humility, and nineteen core values. One of those values is: “Continuous Improvement – We have a relentless discomfort with the status quo.”

I envision ProVia’s Continuous Improvement including the byproduct of employee health.

It is well known within the company culture that employees are cared for, however, I am hopeful that Corporate Care can further nurture that culture by simplifying wellness initiatives into small daily actions, providing all employees with the opportunity to improve their health. In other words, offer wellness initiatives that make it exceedingly difficult NOT to be well.

In the new year, I intend to see to fruition the specific mission of ProVia’s Corporate Care which is to “Develop relationships, programs, and tools to cultivate well-being and growth in the lives of those we touch.” Great intentions are rarely enough to reach a goal, fortunately, ProVia’s Corporate Care is a team comprised of individuals who specialize in employee engagement, leadership development, and ministry. As Wellness Coordinator, I fall under the distinction of employee engagement.

To fulfill this mission within my scope of influence and to provide opportunities for employees to improve their health, I will begin by ensuring, to the best of my ability, that all employees have access to and are aware of wellness initiatives current and future. I will also continue to imagine and implement wellness initiatives and resources that educate and encourage healthy habits including things such as:

· Annual Fitness Reimbursement.

· Character Development Initiative Classes- 10-week class, 1 hour a week during their shift. Paid during that hour.

· Corporate discounts at local fitness centers.

· Employee Assistance Programs that provide free counseling sessions for employees and their immediate family.

· Employee Compassion Fund which helps employees who have experienced a financial emergency or hardship.

· Ensure employees are aware of health insurance discounts that are available.

· Flu Vaccines provided onsite at each facility.

· Know Your Numbers clinic testing blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and glucose levels.

· Leadership courses that offer book studies and a 10-week class, 1 hour a week during their shift.

· Lunch Learn-N-Learn sessions where practical material covers topics pertaining to doing better/taking better care of yourself.

· Marriage enrichment seminars.

· Mobile Chiropractic Unit that provides onsite care during work hours.

· Nutrition Coaching.

· Onsite Financial Education Classes.

· Rewarding employees for participating in organized fitness events.

· Rewarding employees for scheduling and participating in preventative exams and screenings.

· Wellness Challenges.

As each member of Corporate Care fulfills their role, continuous improvement, relationships, growth, and the opportunity for better health will be established. Do employees come to work to get healthy? No. But should health be a byproduct of being a ProVia employee? Absolutely.
